Life goals examples

A life goal here is one sentence you can check: what you will do, how you will measure it, the target, and the date. Write one for each of six pillars — money, family, health, learning, dreams, and friends — so money is one goal, not the whole plan. The examples below come from four fictional households, one per decade.

The households and their numbers are fictional and dated 2026. Each is shown in its own currency. Nothing on this page is saved, and none of it is advice.

Six life pillars

What are the six life pillars?

A life in six measures. Money is one vertex, not the whole shape.

Weight them by this season’s priority, time, and effort — not a grade. Age, stage, and taste choose a different mix. The dashboard stays finance; a full life lives on Life Vision. Do not wait until the Freedom Date to begin.

  1. Money

The engine — never the destination.

  2. Family

    Shared hours, not shared accounts.

  3. Health

The only wealth you cannot reclaim.

  4. Learning

A mind that stays in motion.

  5. Dreams

    The reason the engine exists.

  6. Friends

The people who make the years matter.

How to write a life goal with a target you can check

Life Vision gives each pillar the same fields. What is the sentence; Measure is what you will count; Target is how much is enough; By when makes it checkable. Next step and How often turn it into a habit, and Why this pillar says why it earns its place this season. Here is one complete row from the 40s household’s Learning pillar.

Together these fields make a SMART goal: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. Life Vision ticks the letters as you fill a goal in — S for What, M for Measure, A for Next step and T for By when. R is always on, because every goal sits on a pillar.

Example · 40s · Learning

What
Played one complete song at a Tan family dinner on 14 Jun 2026 — 25 minutes Tuesday and Thursday through the spring.
Measure
Song performed at dinner
Target
1
Next step
Practised Tuesday and Thursday after the twins were in bed. Performed at the June Sunday dinner.
Why this pillar
A guitar at 42 pays a memory dividend the twins will remember; a guitar at 65 is a different story.

Life experience goals: why the window matters

An experience has a window: the years when your body, your family, and your energy still match it. A trip the children still want to join, a race your knees still allow, a visit while a parent can still travel. Waiting for the Freedom Date can close that window. That is why each life experience goal above carries a time bucket — the stretch of years it belongs to — and a cost you can fund now rather than later. See when money can step aside with the FIRE calculator, then how much you can spend each month toward zero with the Path to Zero calculator.
